Summer leads us to have lunch or dinner out, to spend the days at the beach, to experience a condition of such relaxation that even oral hygiene is neglected, in this article we want to explain to you why it is so important to brush your teeth outside the home.
The importance of constant oral hygiene
Remembering to brush your teeth after every meal is much easier if you lead a regular lifestyle, with your toothbrush, toothpaste, mouthwash and dental floss always close at hand.
However, you are not always a stone’s throw from your bathroom, there are those who spend their lunch break in the office, those who travel often, those who, like in this period, prefer to be outdoors.
In these cases, how do you brush your teeth outside the home?
Get a travel kit to always carry with you
When it is not possible to have all the comforts to practice oral hygiene according to our habits, a remedy can still be found to avoid completely neglecting teeth cleaning.
In fact, there are practical travel kits on the market that usually include a folding toothbrush and a small-sized toothpaste, practical to always carry in your bag or to keep in the car.
Thanks to the travel kits you can brush your teeth outside the home, in all circumstances. It won’t be as practical as having your toothbrush handy, but it’s still a great way to avoid neglecting oral hygiene.
Brush your teeth on the go
The toothbrush should be at the top of the list of necessities to pack. Often, however, it is such an obvious object in everyday use that it is forgotten at home.
On long air travel, particularly on intercontinental travel, airlines provide passengers with kits including toothbrushes and toothpaste.
In any case, once you arrive at your destination, you can request a kit for cleaning your teeth at the hotel.
Even airports, railway stations and motorway restaurants are now equipped with vending machines equipped with all the accessories for oral hygiene.
Brushing your teeth outside the home: is chewing gum enough?
In circumstances where it is impossible to recover a toothbrush and toothpaste to brush the teeth, it is possible to resort to the use of chewing gum, but not all types of chewing gum are suitable for the purpose.
The chewing gums that can somehow be useful for cleaning the oral cavity are those with xylitol.
Xylitol is a natural sweetener extracted from birch and beech bark and helps keep the mouth clean and protect teeth from bacterial buildup. Obviously xylitol chewing gums are not as effective as tooth brushing, but they are a great help in cases where it is really impossible to brush your teeth outside the home.
There are also cases where you have a toothbrush but no toothpaste or vice versa, you have toothpaste but no toothbrush. In the first case it is okay to brush your teeth only with the toothbrush after wetting the bristles, brushing must always be moderate to avoid damaging the enamel.
In the second case, after washing your hands thoroughly, you can pass a little toothpaste on your teeth using your index finger.
However, these are not very effective solutions and to be applied only in particular circumstances.
The recommendation is to always maintain constant oral hygiene and brush your teeth outside the home respecting all the rules of proper teeth cleaning.
